Lindsay Lohan Finds It Funny the Internet Thinks She’s Aging in Reverse

Lindsay Lohan has no idea the Internet has been abuzz about her lately—specifically about how, at 38, the former child star’s complexion is so good that social media is wondering if she has access to a time machine. “No,” she laughs. “I just take care of my skin.”

Looking 20 years younger doesn’t hurt now that she’s reprising her role as Anna in Freakier Friday, the follow-up to 2003’s Freaky Friday, which Lohan shot at 16. Teaming up once again with Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays her mother, the sequel will find Lohan’s character a mom herself (not a regular mom, a cool mom, of course) who swaps personas with her own teenage daughter. Infusing adult Anna with a youthful rebellious spirit, “had a lot to do with wardrobe, but we wanted to keep her face completely fresh,” Lohan tells Allure. “The hair was a big part of that, too.” In keeping with the original, Lohan’s color will be the same shade of strawberry blonde, much lighter than the deeper red of recent years.

Her hair also plays a starring role in a new partnership with Nexxus. A throwback to Lohan’s first identity-switch movie,1998’s The Parent Trap, the “The Style Swap” campaign cheekily plays off Lohan’s turn as separated-at-birth twin sisters Hallie and Annie. In the “Twinspired” spot, which is filled with Easter eggs that nod to The Parent Trap, two versions of Lohan showcase the brand’s new 11-piece styling line, with one opting for relaxed beachy waves à la Hallie, the other a slicked-back ponytail using Nexxus Slick Stick Strong Hold Hair Wax, like British-raised Annie might prefer. In a twist, a third version of Lohan—this time embodying the movie’s villain Meredith Blake in her signature black-and-white wide-brimmed hat—struts past them at the end.

Lohan says she relished diving back into the roles: “The nostalgia attracted me to it. I like something whimsical and fun, and the theme helped show off the diversity of the line.”

When she’s not dying her hair for work, Lindsay prefers her natural auburn color and hair maintenance that doesn’t overload her strands. “I’ll do a highlight if I need to, but I try not to over-process it,” she explains. “I only wash and condition it like twice a week so it doesn’t dry out.” The rest of her daily routine is equally unfussy, starting with a cold face towel and Avène Redness Expert Soothing Moisturizing Concentrated Cream or the brand’s Tolérance Control Skin Recovery. “I love that it’s lightweight and hydrating and not overly greasy,” she says of the latter. While drinking her morning matcha, she likes to use Peter Thomas Roth eye patches. Says Lohan: “They rock.”

“After that, I generally keep it pretty light on makeup,” she continues. “If I wear anything, it’s Giorgio Armani Silk foundation or Kevyn Aucoin concealer. Maybe some eye shadow if I’m going out, and Westman Atelier mascara. To remove it, I’ll use Aveeno face wipes, some Avène face wash, and then the redness cream at night again because after I take everything off, I get a little pink.”

While pregnant with son Luai, who she welcomed in 2023 with husband Bader Shammas, the hormonal perk she enjoyed most was longer, stronger, faster-growing nails. “You definitely feel something happening when you’re pregnant. For me, my nails were growing so quickly I was doing manicures way more frequently.” She eliminated non-essential, potentially non-pregnancy-friendly ingredients from her regimen and has kept her product lineup pared-back ever since. “I used to try more serums and do more hair treatments, but now I keep things very basic. I realized, why use something I can’t use when pregnant? Why would I use that anyway?”
